Benedict XVI Altar

Multilem was the company responsible for assembling the altar of Benedict XVI at the Palace Square. It was with great satisfaction that Multlilem received the challenge of being the company responsible for producing the stage where the Pope celebrated Mass in Lisbon. The designer Jorge Assis design was inspired by a pebble, so the altar refers to the biblical passage in which Jesus says "You are Peter and upon this rock I will raise my Church." On the dock of the columns will be mounted a metal orbital tent with about 600 m2 transparent coated mica and screen, the tops are set designs in sheet metal and is mounted inside a bed lined in navy blue carpet evocation of the sea that in the sixteenth century, the Portuguese crossed, spreading Christianity. Placed inside the structure, Victoria Ghost chairs by Philippe Starck for Bishops, with a metal cross about 8 meters, the table where Mass is celebrated, where the pulpit will be read the readings of the gospel, the kneeler and chairs where Benedict sat, and the Cardinals D. Jose Policarpo Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. All parts produced will be reused for future churches. The team behind this project has about 150 people from many areas.
